With the very sad news today that Sean Hughes has died at the age of 51 coming on the heels of US comedian Ralphie May’s death at the age of 45 only last week, OTL wonders if comedian’s die young?
Research as far as it can go with a small sample seems to confirm that comedians compared to comic actors do statistically die younger. Certainly, it can be an unhealthy lifestyle. Life on the road can mean irregular meals, little exercise and too much alcohol. There’s also perhaps a predisposing personality towards mental health problems and addiction. With the highs come the lows.
Although OTL firmly believes laughter is the best medicine, for those merchants of the laughter, the comedians themselves, it may not be so healthy. OTL will keep away from the take aways and try and get its 10,000 steps per day!
Audible have made 12 stand up shows from this years Edinburgh Fringe available free!
That’s OTL’s weekend sorted.
There are lots of funny animal videos out there but this is one of the best see link below! Just for the record OTL is a cat person.
Here is Ziggy Stardust the new OTL kitten.
OTL loves a great one liner and there are plenty of great puns and one liners out there! Great to see friend of OTL, Jenny Collier on this list. Check out the link to the guardian below for their favourite 10 one liners.
Unfortunately none of resident MC Jeannie Jones’ one liners made it into Steve Best’s book but as OTL’s venue at Peebles rugby club tells her “keep trying”.
Simon Brodkin aka Lee Nelson, pulled possibility his biggest stunt so far in evading security at the tory party conference and giving the prime minister her P45 (the form people get in the UK when they are sacked or leave their job). Coincidence that this is great publicity for his autumn tour (tickets still available). OTL is wondering what prank it might play to gain free advertising for its gigs….. (Please leave any suggestions in the comments section)
The police are reporting concerns that ISIS maybe attending comedy courses to infiltrate the comedy circuit and plant sleeper cells of comedians to launch suicide “pranks”against prominent figures in public life. Yeah good luck getting an open spot ISIS
